Published: Feb 7, 2021 · Modified: Mar 29, 2021 by The Devil Wears Salad

Cooking at home with your kids is the epitome of quality family time. Making salads together only promotes healthy eating habits and learning good kitchen techniques. This collection is kid friendly and ever so delicious!

Growing up in a generation where Uber Eats didn’t exist or dining out was a luxury, home cooking was very much part of family life.

Not only did we learn to cook with our parents, we learnt to cook meals from scratch! Boiling herbal broths for hours, slow cooking stews or prepping traditional dishes that can take what seemed like forever.

Looking back on those days, we all relish at the thought of the time we spent in the kitchen as a family. This taught us to appreciate the food we ate as we understood the effort it took to get it on the table.

Apart from that, it’s a nostalgic kind of thing, isn’t it? It’s the same feeling you get when you eat something familiar, and you’re reminded of the time you were a child.

As the world started to hurl towards a digital age, and it became faster than we could cope with, slow days spent in the kitchen diminished. We are all guilty of it, and sometimes we need to remind ourselves to slow down.

With all the new kitchen gadgets we have such as the Airfryer and the Instant Pot, cooking has also become more efficient and so much faster. Well, we simply don’t have the time anymore.

However, cooking with your kids is incredibly important, and if you don’t already, we need to make more time for them.

Apart from quality time, though, it’s also about teaching them how to navigate the kitchen so they don’t grow up to be a generation of adults who can’t cook.

It’s also important to teach them good eating habits. Not all meals come in a box or squeezable packets.

Take them grocery shopping, get them to know their produce. Show them how to prepare it, cook it, and make them understand that fresh produce is crucial for a good diet.

While salads may not be the first thing your kids learn to cook, it’s a great start.

We have collated some salads for you that are kid friendly. Some are quick to whip up while others are easy to put together. Some recipes don’t even require any cooking.

We get that we need to give them a little incentive too so we have also included some easy to make dessert fruit salads with some really fun (maybe not so healthy oops…everything in moderation!) ingredients.

We hope this collection will inspire you to get the kids in the kitchen and create some fond memories.
