If you love gorgeous, aromatic spices, this Spiced Yoghurt Dressing with Honey is exactly what you need! Creamy, sweet and tangy all in the one recipe.

    Spiced Yoghurt Dressing with Honey

Yoghurt is a perfect base for creamy salad dressings. It is a great substitute for mayonnaise based salad dressings.

Greek yoghurt especially delivers the same velvety consistency but less fat than mayonnaise. We also find the added tang in yoghurt helps cut through rich creamy taste in salads like the potato salad or coleslaw.

There are many different ways you can amp up a basic yoghurt dressing. Seeded mustard is great to add flavour and texture with pops of mustard seeds throughout. This combination would work well with a classic potato salad.

Another easy method is to finely chop mint leaves to create a fresh fragment mint yoghurt dressing great for grilled meats. We of course love to throw in some spices to create aromatic yoghurt dressing just like our Spiced Yoghurt Dressing with Honey.

Middle Eastern inspired, we combine Greek yoghurt, honey, sumac and cinnamon for a tangy and fragrant salad dressing that works magic together. Sumac is a wonderful spice to infuse in the dressing for its tangy flavour and beautiful pop of red colour.

We love the combination of grains and yoghurt. The creamy consistency of the yoghurt folded through earthy and nutty grain salad makes for a match made in heaven.

Spiced Yoghurt Dressing with Honey Ingredients

Greek yoghurt: I love using Greek yoghurt because it has a thicker consistency than other yoghurts. This is because most of its whey is strained compared to other yoghurts without compromising on its sour taste.

Honey: The sour taste of the yoghurt is offset by some honey. Depending on the honey you prefer, it can also offer flavours that are smokey, earthy, floral or even woody. There are no preferences for this salad dressing so use the honey you love the most.

Sumac: Sumac is made from the dried berries of a sumac flower. It is incredibly fragrant and has a tart finish. It’s colour is vibrant and makes for a wonderful addition to marinades, spice blends and of course salad dressings.

Cinnamon: To add to the warmth of flavours of this dressing, add a little cinnamon.

Spiced Yoghurt Dressing with Honey Method

In a small mixing bowl, add the Greek yoghurt, honey, sumac, and cinnamon. Mix it well until the honey is completely enveloped by the yoghurt.

To add to the Middle Eastern theme, a touch of sumac infuses the yoghurt beautifully.

This spice from the deep red berries of the sumac bush makes a regular appearance in my cooking as I love the tang it gives the recipe..
